Tennis History in Denmark

The gorgeous lady tennis player in the photo is Denmark’s Bertha Isles Smith, daughter of J D Smith, a well-known resident.  Bertha married Ernie Bayley in 1922 and together they were founder members of the Denmark Tennis Club, officially formed in 1924. The Bayley family have had a long, active association with both golf and tennis with 2 of the Bayley brothers Norman and Ernie serving on the Tennis Club committee for many years. Jeff, (Norman's son) and Lesly Bayley, both current Life Members, have only recently retired from golf and tennis but still take an active interest in the Country Club’s activities.
